Through the CVPP, 135,238 smallholder households have made sales worth USD 41,641,960 of cassava products in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The project has also enhanced their food security and further elevated cassava into a commercialized commodity for food security, value addition and ultimately industrial use.
Cassava Village Processing Project (CVPP) was implemented by FCI in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania with financial support from the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).
The project enhanced food security for 135,238 households and further elevated cassava into a commercialized commodity for food security, value addition and ultimately industrial use. Through the CVPP project, FCI engaged 135,238 households who were mobilized to work collectively as trading blocs through the Commercial Village Model.
Among the key achievements include: Sales amounting to USD. 41,641,960 from assorted cassava products, about 40 million cassava cuttings were sowed, value addition through processing of cassava flour for food security, and employment created for youth and women. Twelve formal and ten informal markets with sixty traders were also identified and linked to the CVs..
A cassava processing innovation introduced by Farm Concern International (FCI) now reduces cassava chunks drying time from seven to two days during sunny periods. This saves time especially for the women who are involved in household cassava processing and drying.
